Chief Executive Officer

David W. Kolstad

David is the founder and CEO of Gentuity. He is a recognized industry leader with over 25 years of global experience creating and building profitable medical device businesses. Prior to founding Gentuity, he was Executive in Residence with RA Capital following his role as General Manager of St. Jude Medical’s Imaging business. Before that, David served as Chairman and CEO of LightLab Imaging, and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Hewlett-Packard’s (now Philips) medical imaging business. He is a member of MassMedic’s Executive Committee, serving as Immediate Past Chair.

David finds his work in medical devices extremely gratifying – working with bright, highly engaged individuals including world-leading clinicians to develop cutting-edge technologies that make a very real difference in the health and lives of people around the world. He builds strong teams achieving great results for patients, clinicians, teammates, and investors. He is proud of the work being done at Gentuity, reshaping vascular diagnostics, accelerating the delivery of improved patient care, and establishing new standards of care worldwide. Priorities for David are maintaining a sharp focus on improving patient care, working with integrity, and treating people with respect.

David holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth.

President

Desmond Adler

Desmond joined Gentuity in early 2022 with the personal goal of enabling interventional cardiologists to improve how they care for their patients. Desmond sees the convergence of advanced imaging technology, artificial intelligence, and user-centric design as critical to achieving this goal and sees the Gentuity platform as uniquely positioned to deliver these innovations to the clinic. Desmond has over 20 years of experience in the biomedical optics industry and has contributed to new product launches in cardiology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, and pulmonology. During his time at LightLab Imaging and St. Jude Medical, he led the development of previous generations of intravascular imaging systems. He also led the development and commercialization of drug-device combination therapies for rare ophthalmic diseases as General Manager and VP R&D of Corneal Health for Glaukos Corp.

Desmond feels that working in medical technology represents a unique way to contribute to society while also experiencing lifelong learning, enjoying professional growth, and forming personal bonds with exceptional individuals from all over the world. He holds a BSc in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta and a PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.

Chief Financial Officer

Renny Clark

Renny joined Gentuity in 2018 as the Chief Financial Officer. He has over 30 years of experience growing businesses and a proven track record in the financial management of medical technology companies. He excels in helping businesses enter global markets, new business development, and financial planning and analysis. Previously, he was the CFO of CardioFocus, CFO of LightLab Imaging, and VP of Finance at Boston Scientific where he started as the Director of New Business Development.

Renny is drawn to the medical industry because it offers the opportunity to leverage his business skills to improve patient care and lower healthcare costs. He takes pride in ensuring the right level of resources are available to the Gentuity team at the right time so they can deliver great products to their customers. Attention to detail while thinking strategically are key to his professional success. Renny holds a BA in Political Science from Pitzer College, an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

John Kummailil profile picture
Vice President of Operations

John Kummailil, PhD

John joined Gentuity as the Vice President of Operations in January 2023, bringing a wealth of engineering, development, and process expertise. He has held various technical roles at startups, working on NASA and DARPA projects, as well as in multinationals, like Boston Scientific. In his last role, he ran the largest sterilization site in the network, touching more than 37 million devices a year, and led the team that turned it into one of the high-performing sites. He prioritizes the quality of products, seeking to manufacture the best solutions for patients. A continuous learner, John has an insatiable curiosity and tries to learn a new subject or skill every five years. So, far he’s tackled playing the guitar, speaking French, programming in C, 3D printing when it first became popular, evolutionary biology, Linux and more. One of his favorite quotes is from James Cameron, “If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, you will fail above everyone else’s success.” John enjoys hiking with his son, Jacob, and his coon-hound rescue, Rusty.

Vice President, Global Commercial Development

Jason Rudy

Jason Rudy is a seasoned commercial leader with over 20 years of experience in the interventional cardiology space. He began his career at Radi Medical, which was later acquired by St. Jude Medical, where he played a central role in bringing the first coronary Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) platform to market. Additionally, his career spans key commercial and leadership roles at Abbott, Biotronik, and most recently Philips. Jason has led the launch of over 75 new and iterative devices in the coronary and structural heart markets globally.

Jason’s deep understanding of market development, physician engagement, and product positioning has helped drive the global adoption of innovative cardiovascular technologies. He is passionate about expanding access to best-in-class tools that enhance clinical outcomes and reduce procedural costs. Jason holds a Bachelor of Science in Management and an MBA in Leadership.

Vice President, Research and Development

Alex Yildizyan

Alex Yildizyan brings over 20 years of experience in engineering, with more than a decade in senior leadership roles across the medical device industry. Prior to joining Gentuity, Alex held multiple R&D leadership positions at Glaukos, most recently serving as Vice President of Research & Development for Biophotonics and Combination Products. In that role, he oversaw long-term development initiatives and led cross-functional teams focused on advancing ophthalmic technologies.

Alex is known for his collaborative, team-oriented leadership style and his ability to translate technical complexity into scalable commercial solutions. His strengths lie in fostering innovation, developing high-performing teams, and driving product development from concept through commercialization. Alex holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Northeastern University and has also completed continuing education in leadership and project management.

Vice President, Global Regulatory, Clinical, and Quality

Raj Kasbekar, PhD

Raj Kasbekar is a recognized leader in ‘people management’, ‘global safety, regulatory, quality, clinical and sustainability processes and systems’ as well as ‘biomedical engineering’ with over 25 years of experience across several top healthcare companies. Before joining Gentuity, Raj spent 16 years at Kaz USA, a Helen of Troy Company, where he served in various leadership roles including Global Vice President of Regulatory, Clinical, Quality, and Documentation. During his tenure, he helped build regulatory, clinical and quality systems to transform the organization from a $350 million business into a $1 billion leader in consumer medical and other products. He has also worked in various roles in regulatory, quality and product development at Hologic, GE Healthcare, Cordis (Johnson & Johnson), Respironics (Philips) and PaceTech.

Raj has extensive expertise in organizational leadership, national and international regulatory processes, quality management systems, product safety and quality, post market processes, conducting controlled clinical studies, AI/ML-based medical device development, and product as well as packaging sustainability. He holds multiple patents, has published several peer-reviewed articles including in Nature, and was honored with the Elemed ‘Contribution to Society’ Award for his work on pediatric fever management. Raj earned a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, an MS in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, an MBA in Operations and Finance from Carnegie Mellon University, and has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Senior Director, Human Resources

Patricia Modzelewski

Patti Modzelewski brings extensive human resources experience across a range of industries, including biotech, robotics, industrial automation, and advanced materials. Before joining Gentuity, she served as Vice President of Human Resources at Shawmut Corporation, where she led global HR initiatives for a high-growth manufacturer serving the automotive sector.

Patti began her career as a high school history teacher before moving into HR through a startup opportunity, an unexpected pivot that shaped her career. She has since built a reputation as a true HR generalist, known for her collaborative approach, problem-solving skills, and ability to align people strategy with business goals. Patti holds a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in administration with a concentration in Innovation and Technology, and Senior HR Professional certification.
